July 5, 1937 ~ July 31, 2016 (age 79) 79 Years Old



Andrew H. Avery Sr. 79, of Dennison transitioned to his eternal home on Sunday, July 31st, 2016 at Hennis Health Care Centre, Dover, Ohio.
He was born July 5th, 1937 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Joseph and Sophie (Hargrove) Avery.
On August 20th 1960, he married his wife of 56 years, Shirley (Hunter) Avery who survives along with 4 children,  Angela (Cleveland) Maffett of Noblesville, IN;  Ellisa (Robert) Woods of Marion,  Andrew Jr. (Juanita Murdoch) of Dennison, and Ira Christopher Avery of Marion.  Also left to cherish his memory are 12 grandchildren, Robert II, Jarret (Chelsey Guider), Kory and Andrisha Woods, Adrianne, Anissa, and Christian Maffett, Andrew III, Justice, Keanna Avery,  Anastasia Jackson and Kaniah Murdoch. 6 greatgrandchildren, Olivia Clemons, Jaela, Kylah, Avery, Ahmir, and Emoni Woods.  In addition, sister-in-laws, Velma Avery of Birmingham, Jo Avery of Michigan, and Carrier Joseph of Uhrichsville.
Andrew has always shared a very special bond with his many nieces, nephews and cousins who remained dedicated and loyal to him through this failing health.  He considered everyone a friend and never met a stranger. He leaves behind special friends Hanes Hairston, George Joseph, Frank Lowery, and Art Walker. An avid Alabama (Crimson Tide) fan, Andrew enjoyed watching games and heckling his sons, grandsons, and friends while watching “his team” win. You could often find him traveling or locally cheering and beaming with pride as he watched his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren participating in sports and dance activities.
He is retired from Conesville Preperation Plant, in Conesville, Ohio. He was a longtime member St. John's AME Church, Uhrichsville where he served several years on the Trustee Board. Andrew was honored to have served as Past Master of the former J. B. Easley Masonic Lodge No. 111.
The last of his immediate family, he was proceeded in death by his parents and 5 brothers, Joseph, Roscoe, Willis, Frederick, Ira and 5 sisters, Marie, Ola, Ora, Audrey, and Allene.
The family also wishes to acknowledge the Physical Therapy Department at Hennis, along with James and Missie for the care and compassion shown Andrew and the family during his brief stay.
Services will be held on Friday, August 5th 2016 at 1pm at St. John's Worship & Praise Community Church at 1030 Cook St. Uhrichsville with Rev. Henry McNeil officiating.  Friends may call on Thursday 5p-8p at Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Uhrichsville and 1 hour prior to the Service at the church (12-1pm).
