Charles "Salty" R. Ault

December 16, 1930 ~ June 5, 2016 (age 85) 85 Years Old

Charles R. "Salty" Ault departed from this life Sunday, June 5, 2016 in perfect peace at Amberwood Manor. He was born December 16, 1930 in Uhrichsville, Ohio to Charles W. and Elizabeth (Reichman) Ault. Salty resided all of his life on Myers Hollow Rd, Gnadenhutten, Ohio. He attended school in Tuscarawas, Ohio, graduating in 1948. After graduating he joined the U.S. Army.

On October 27,1951 he married the love of his life, Elsie Pongratz at St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas, Ohio. Together they raised a family of five children. Salty built, owned and operated Ault's Greenhouse, where he took great pride in serving his community. Life was humble and happy,
and not without its storms. Together, he and Elsie weathered them all, and spent their last remaining years cherishing one another. Salty retired from Joy Technologies in 1991 after 30 years of service.
Prior to that, he worked at the Dennison Sewer Pipe. He was a former member of Fry's Valley Moravian Church.

In his younger years, he was very gifted and accomplished in singing and playing guitar, drawing cartoon caricatures and riding his motorcycle. He and Elsie loved to polka. His favorite past times were hunting, fishing, gardening, Cleveland Indians baseball, an avid sports fan, and traveling to Canada and Texas. There seemed to be nothing he couldn't do mechanically; car repair, plumbing, electrical work; he was meticulous in his work, always completely organized.

In the wake of his passing, Salty leaves behind two daughters, Sheila (Fred) Davis of Wainwright, Sharon (Bob) Smart of Gnadenhutten; two sons Richard (Helen) Ault and Dan Ault of Gnadenhutten; grandchildren, Matthew Vaca of Mansfield, OH; Crystal Vaca of Katy, TX; Richard "Spud" (Megan) Ault of
