GLENN “SONNY” WAYNE JOHNSON

Glenn “Sonny” Wayne Johnson, age 80, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017, due to a motorcycle accident.

Born on September 20, 1936 in Dennison, Sonny is the son of the late Glenn Eugene and Ruth Maxine (Ames) Johnson.

In 1954, Sonny graduated from Uhrichsville High School.  He was employed for 32 years as a design stylist at Marlite Inc., until his retirement in 1998.  Sonny was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church, Dennison Rotary, 40 + Motorcycle Club and the Yellow Jackets Motorcycle Club.  He enjoyed camping, square dancing and he was a drummer for many country bands.

In addition to his parents, Sonny is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Ann (Roberts) Johnson, whom he married on December 29, 1956, and a brother Ronald G. Johnson is also deceased.

Sonny is survived by his daughters Shelby (Bob) Hall of Scio and Carla (Jeff) Jones of Uhrichsville; sister Janet Decker of Arizona; special friend Corrine Edwards of Uhrichsville; grandchildren Crissy (Josh) Whiteman, Heather (Chad) Hall, Robby (Brooke) Hall, Kevin (Jennifer) Hall, Alexis (Shawn) Lindsay, Janelle Jones and Kiley Jones and great grandchildren Brodie Lindsay, Briella Lindsay, Grayson Hall, Maddox Whiteman and Olivia Hall.

Funeral services for Sonny will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11 a.m., at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville with the Rev. Lyle Warren officiating.  Burial will follow at Newport Cemetery in Uhrichsville.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the funeral home.
