James Slayman Scott, age 83, of Dennison, O., passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at at Union Hospital, following a short illness.
Born on January 11, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland, James was the son of the late Raymond Hildebrand and Edna Slayman Scott. James graduated from Newburg High School in Indiana and served in the United States Navy. He retired from Associated Grocers in 1989 after 28 years of employment. James was a member of the First Christian Church of Uhrichsville, the United States Auto Club and the Early Ford V-8 Club. He enjoyed antique cars and restoring toys.
On January 14, 1956, James married Margaret J. (McCollam) Scott, who passed away on February 23, 2014. He was also preceded in death by an infant son Donald Scott and son-in-law Rick Straub.
James is survived by his children Robert Scott of Dennison, Cathy Straub of Dover; 2 sisters-in-law Sue Clauser and Joan McCollam both of Dennison; 2 grandchildren Bryan Straub and Melissa Straub; nephew Joe Clauser; niece Lori Clauser and a cousin Russ Maisel.
Funeral services for James will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville, with the Rev. Gordon Furbay officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville.
Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the funeral home.
