LEONARD EARL TUCKER

Leonard Earl Tucker 67, passed away on June 1st, 2017 at home following a brief decline in health. Leonard was born March 31, 1950 in Dennison Ohio. Leonard was the son of the late Henry L Tucker Sr. and Beatrice (Tucker) Mells. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 4 years during Vietnam War. Leonard worked for the Navy Finance Center and went on to work in Real-Estate. Leonard owned Creative Catering with his wife Jacinta for several years owning bragging rights winning best ribs at the Cleveland Rib Burn off 3 years in a row. Leonard joined the Cleveland Fire Department retiring in 2006 after 26 years.

Leonard was a 1968 graduate of Claymont High School and a 1975 graduate from Baldwin Wallace with a Real-Estate Degree.  He was member of the Claymont basketball and track team and held many event records at Claymont.  Leonard followed all Claymont athletics, constantly wanting all teams to achieve and go on to state. His favorite saying “Defend the Land”; “No matter how the race ends just do your best!” Leonard remained an avid sports fan till the end, watching and rooting on all the Claymont kids. He was a sports loving fan of the Cleveland Cavs and Cleveland Indians.

Leonard was a historian on the “Royal Settlement “and “Midvale Mines” and loved telling all the youth about the importance of knowing family history and community. Leonard loved his family and community helping anyone without thought. He was a baptized at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church and Bethel SDA in Cleveland, OH.

Leonard went on to meet the Love of His Life Jacinta Patrice Earley in 1966 and later married in Cleveland, Ohio on July 8th, 1971. Together they raised 21 children. Leonard leaves behind his wife of 47yrs, Jacinta, daughters; Letitia (Kory) Russell Denver, CO; Angelia (Stanley Sampson) Tucker, Macon, GA; Victoria Holmes Uhrichsville, OH; Lavisa Cuadrado, Cleveland, OH; Lois Shiltz, Elyria, OH; Theresa[j1]   Morton, Macon, GA.  Sons; John Tucker, Dover, OH; Deaundre (Tiffany) Mells, New Phila, OH; Esteban Carter, Columbus OH; Glehn Carter Jr., Columbus OH; Isiah Carter, Illinois; Daniel Holmes, Fla.; Chris (Shelia) Martin, Charlotte, NC; Eddie (Margaret) Hewitt, Medina, OH.  28 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  Also leaving behind brothers Henry (Annie) Tucker, Jr., Akron, OH; James (Kathy) Tucker, Nashville, TN; Frank Mells, Charleston, WV; Vincent (Salema) Mells, Hickory, NC; Myron Mells, Coshocton, OH; sisters Marguerite (Dan) Cooper, Ft. Worth, TX; Marlene Mells-Tucker, Charleston, WV; Sandra (David) Fears, Cleveland, OH;  and Hattie Mells, Cleveland, OH. And special friend Cliff Clay, Cleveland Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and grandparents Maggie and Leonard Hudson, and Aunt Myrtle Middlebrooks; Leonard was proceeded in death by his son Thomas (Crystal St Aulburn) Tucker; Sisters Lillian Reed, Stephanie Lumpkin, Magdalene Mells, Brother Earl Waymon Mells-Tucker and Brother Glehn (Paula) Carter Sr.

Calling hours will be from 5pm-8pm on Wednesday June 7th and Funeral Thursday June 8th at 11am., with the Dr. William J. Blake officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville. Calling hours and Funeral will be held at Uhrich- Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc., 634 North Water Street, Uhrichsville Ohio.
