NORMA GONZALES

Norma Gonzales, 81, of Dennison and more recently Dover, joined her beloved husband, Felipe (Phil), for eternity August 11, on their 61st wedding anniversary.  They are reunited at last.  She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family after a brief illness. 

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Felipe, mother, Elizabeth Henry Born and father, Walter Henry. She was loving mother to Suzie Gonzales of Mill Valley, California, Dave (Kris) Gonzales of Dennison, Linda (Dana) Patterson of Coventry, Katie (Todd) Westhafer of Green and Heidi (Mike) Jenkins of Cedarburg, Wisconsin.  She adored her grandchildren Dane (Crystal) Patterson, Danielle (Frank) Leppar, David (Lacey) Gonzales, Kyle Westhafer, Max & Alex Chesser, Lia Westhafer, Tori Gonzales and Ben & Sam Jenkins who all brought her endless joy.  She was thrilled to see the next generation of the family ushered in with her great-grandchildren Brandon & Shaunie McCoy, Kamrie Gonzales and Dawson Patterson. 

She was born Norma Jean Henry on January 15, 1936 in Youngstown, Ohio.  Norma and Phil met at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown where he was a resident and she was a nurse’s aide. They married on August 11, 1956.  A few years later, they moved their family to the beautiful Twin Cities and made their home in the country surrounded by children, grandchildren and scores of animals.  Norma worked for many years at the family practice she and her husband shared where she was a medical assistant.  They considered it an honor to serve the community by providing healthcare.  A talented seamstress, crafter and cook of delicious Filipino dishes, Norma loved supporting her children in their Claymont school activities.  She and Phil had a deep appreciation for travel and musicals.  Long drives through the rolling hills of Amish Country was a favorite pastime. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Uhrichsville. Norma was thrilled to receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Twin City Chamber of Commerce.

Her family wishes to thank Community Hospice, particularly Nurse Jill Albaugh, Rev. Shaun Green, her neighbors who welcomed her warmly at Northstar Community in Dover and the close friends and family who visited her in her final weeks. 

Cremation care will be handled by Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home Inc.  It was Norma’s wish that no public service be held.  A gathering for her immediate family will celebrate her life and legacy.
