RUTH ALICE COMBEST

Ruth Alice Combest, age 99, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at her residence following an extended illness.

Born on May 7, 1918 in Massillon, Ruth was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ida (Harbold) Smith.  She spent her childhood in Oklahoma and returned to Ohio where she retired from Hall Glove in 1993.  Ruth also volunteered at Hennis Nursing Home in Dover and a nursing home in Tennessee.  She enjoyed gardening,  hand crafts and was an expert seamstress.

In June 1936, Ruth married Henry Combest.  Henry passed away on September 9, 1961.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter Irma (Lorin) Shroyer; a son Earl (Norma) Combest and eight siblings.

Ruth is survived by four grandchildren Daniel Shroyer of Brentwood, Tennessee, Patricia Shroyer of Dover, David Shroyer of Madison, Tennessee and Stephanie (Michael) Swartzwelder of Dover; two great grandchildren Alyssa (Ryan Maculaitis) Swartzwelder of New Philadelphia and Zachary (Emily Macomber) Swartzwelder of New Philadelphia; great great granddaughter Alessandra Maculaitis and many close friends.

Funeral services for Ruth will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville, with the Rev. Brian Flood officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville.

Calling hours will be from 11 to 1 (two hours prior to services) on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the funeral home.
