THOMAS J. MURPHY JR.

1928-2017

Thomas J. Murphy Jr., age 88, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017, at Trinity West in Steubenville, due to complications from heart surgery.

The son of Thomas J. and Helen (Pyle) Murphy, Thomas was born October 29, 1928 in Newport, O. Thomas served his country during the Korean Conflict.  He retired from Midvale Mine after 34 years and worked for Watkins Trucking for nine years.  He also attended Newport United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.

On April 27, 1950, Thomas married Arlene R. (Swinderman) Murphy, who survives of the home.  Together they have five children Thomas (Cindy) Murphy, Joe Murphy (companion Mary Barker), Susan Stucin (companion Denny Wright), Steve (Kim) Murphy and Rhonda (Mike) Cochran all of the Uhrichsville area; grandchildren Thomas Murphy, Shawn Murphy, Melissa Celestin, Kari Galigher, Matthew Bennington, Kody Murphy, Rachel Smith, Hunter Stucin, Ethan Murphy, Alexis Murphy, Zachary Foster, Derek Foster, Lydia Cochran, Casey Cochran, Angela Cochran and Jason Cochran; twenty nine great grandchildren; siblings Martha (Jim) Chaney, Mary (Roy) Scott and Larry (Cindy) Murphy.

In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his siblings Richard Murphy, William Murphy, Gene Murphy and Sara Ann Rice and a son-in-law William Stucin.
