WILLIAM RICHARD COX

William Richard Cox passed into new life on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.  He was born on August 30, 1944 the eldest son of William and Mary Helen (Long) Cox.
Bill is survived by his loving family, wife, Gay L. Cox, son, Eric Emerson Cox, grandson Kyler Emerson Cox, granddaughter, Sunny Sprout, and great granddaughter Arianna B. Cox.

The close knit family also includes his brother; Rick, wife Sherrie Cox of Uhrichsville, brother Mark D. and wife Shari Cox of Dennison and sister Beth Ann (Cox) Kopp and husband Mike Kopp. Brother and Sister-in Laws: Ann L. Varcolla and husband Joe Varcolla of New Philadelphia, and John Thomas LaPorte and wife Kay (Reifenschneider) LaPorte of New Albany.

Bill grew up with strong family ties to his grandparents Nora and Dave Long and his 8 Aunt and Uncles. Bill's Aunt Barb (Long) Henry is now the only surviving member of the immediate family of Nora and Dave Long.

The Long family now has expanded to 66 families who gather each July for a family reunion. Bill’s friendship with many of his cousins both on the Long and Cox sides of the family were relationships that he valued and maintained since childhood.

His nieces and nephews will miss their "Uncle Bill". Nieces: Natalie (Brian) Fockler their sons, Aidan, Owen, and Knox: Nicole (Scott) Shaw family Adam, Collin, Sammy and Lucy; Neeley (Jeremy) Davis and daughter, Elah, Nanette Cox, Jessica (Cody) Smith, daughter Aria, Bess L. Thompson and son Jack La Porte, Claire La Porte and Macy Kopp, Nephews Seth (Tiffy) Kopp son, Kamden; Kirk Kopp, and son Nolan, Mark (Suzi) Cox, and their children Abby, Tim, and Nate.

Bill enjoyed golfing and "bantering" with his buddies "The Old Guys" and we know that they will miss Bill's wit and his true to self golfing demeanor, as well as Bill's organizational skills in planning the weekly golf outings.

Bill graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1962 and Kent State and Dayton Universities.  Bill will be remembered and honored by many of his students who often told him that he was their favorite teacher. He taught, coached, and served as High School Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, and Special Coordinator for Claymont City schools until his retirement in 1998.

Bill donated his body to Life Banc to meet medical needs of others.  By his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Uhrichsville, with the Rev. Gordon Furbay officiating.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m., on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville.

A Student  Athlete Scholarship will be established in Bill's honor to be administered by the Claymont Foundation, P.O. Box 255, Dennison, Ohio 44621.
