IRMA JEAN SIMMONS
Irma Jean Simmons, age 80, of Uhrichsville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 21, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton.
Born on May 7, 1937, Jean is the daughter of the late Willford R. and Iona Mildred (Petry) Rainsberg. In addition to her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her sister Beverly Roth and two brothers Terry Ray and Randy Alan Rainsberg.
In 1955, Jean graduated from Tuscarawas Warwick High School. She was employed as the Village Clark of Tuscarawas for 35 years. Jean was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas, where she was the choir director and organist for 52 years. She organized the Ladies Auxiliary Tuscarawas Warwick Volunteer Fire Department. Jean and Bob together also owned Metzger’s Tavern from 1976 to 1984 and worked at the Twin City Food Center for 10 years.
On June 10, 1956 at the St. James Lutheran Church, Jean married Robert Simmons, who survives of the home. Also surviving are their children Randy (Sue) Simmons of Newcomerstown and Glenda Celuch of Mason; brother-in-law Jerry Roth of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren Stacie (Dustin) Abner of Newcomerstown, Ethan Celuch of Cincinnati and Emily Celuch of Mason; one great granddaughter Addie; numerous nieces and nephews and her dog “Rascal”.
Funeral services for Jean will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1 p.m., at the St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas with the Pastor Ken Hacker officiating. Burial will follow at the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m., on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
