Carol Tharp Obituary

CAROL A. THARP

Carol A. Tharp, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2022, after a brief illness.  Carol was born September 18, 1937 and graduated as Valedictorian in 1955 from Tuscarawas Warwick High School.  During her time there, she was a majorette in the marching band.  She resided in Austintown, OH, before returning to her roots here in Tuscarawas.  She was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church and sang in the choir.  Carol loves spending time with her entire family and loved holiday gatherings.  Carol’s memory was quick, and her ability to recall facts was quite unmatched.  We learned not to challenge her Scrabble words (because they were always in the dictionary).  As a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes she knew the statistics of the teams.  If we had a question about anything, she seemed to know something about it: card game rules, word definitions, and Jeopardy questions.  Because of her love of reading, you could always find her on her iPad.  She also had the ability for resourcefulness, such as a foil box to hold playing cards for the little ones’ tiny hands.

Carol impacted those around her, but none more so than her family.  Her speech was gentle, wise, and thoughtful, and her love for her family was quite fierce, unconditional, and oh so patient.  Her legacy of hobbies has been passed through younger generations, and everyone’s been able to catch bits and pieces of her sewing, crocheting, reading, playing cards, and many more.  As the matriarch, she took care of us all; saying each of our names nightly in her prayers.  She had a passion for family traditions.  She will be remembered for her noodles, meat pies, roast, and pink apple sauce recipes.  Grandma and Papa T remembered what each grandkid liked to eat and do, making us feel special.

Carol had 6 children, RoAnne Frederick, Nanette Miller, Donnie Tharp, Ron (Carrie) Tharp, Randy (Leslie) Tharp, and Marcie (Manny) Montes.  She had 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.  She had multiple nieces and nephews, including 4 special nephews: Bobby, Dave, Doug, and Todd McPeek.  Her son-in-law, Manny, provided excellent loving care along with comforting support.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd McPeek and Rhoda (Reichman) McPeek, her loving husband Donald L. Tharp, and her son Donald L. Tharp, Jr.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville.

Funeral services will be held at 11, on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Legacy Church with viewing hours one hour prior.  Her grandson, Tommy Miller, will be officiating.  Burial will follow at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery, in Tuscarawas.
