Doris Jean (Pounds) Miller

Doris Jean Miller, age 77, of Gnadenhutten, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Doris was born August 25, 1943 in Dennison, the daughter of the late John Felix and Mildred (Stoyanovich) Pounds. She was employed as the CFO of the Orme School in Mayer, Arizona for 30 years until her retirement in 2007.

On June 6, 1964, at the First Presbyterian Church, Uhrichsville, Doris married Bob Miller - starting 56 wonderful years of marriage, full of love, commitment, and adventure. Bob survives her, as well as their sons Allen Miller of Apache Junction, Arizona and Bill Miller of Boise, Idaho; siblings JoAnn Clouse of New Philadelphia, Larry Pounds of Troy, and Bobby Pounds of Dover; along with grandchildren Andrew, Cassie, Caleb, and Joshua.

Doris had a contagious love of life and was a friend to everyone she met. She was a second-mom to thousands of Orme’s boarding school students and mentor to many school staff. Beloved by all, she excelled in hospitality—no one left the Miller home lacking food or a listening ear. None of which hindered her dedication to her family, commitment as a mom to her “boys”, or devotion and affection for Bob, the love of her life.

Funeral services for Doris will be held 1 PM, on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church, Uhrichsville with the Reverend Mark Unrue officiating. A family burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville.

Calling hours will be held from 12 to 1 (one hour prior to services) at the church. Due to the current health crisis, mask and social distancing will be required.
