John "Jack" Horvath Obituary

JOHN G. (JACK) HORVATH

John G. (Jack) Horvath, age 85 of Jackson Township, Ohio formerly of Uhrichsville, Ohio passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on March 27, 2020 from complications of a massive stroke. He was born in Barton, Ohio, on November 2, 1934 (his mother's birthday) to Frank and Julia (Kuhn) Horvath. Jack was one of eleven children. His father was killed in a coal mining accident when Jack was six years old and his oldest brother Frank Jr. stepped in to help raise his siblings.
Jack learned at an early age the value and meaning of hard work and carried that knowledge throughout his entire life.

On February 25, 1956 Jack married the love of his life Mary Margaret (Shearer) Horvath whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage until her passing on March 22, 2015. They raised five children. Jack was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Canton and was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dennison for many years.

Jack worked for Alsco Aluminum in Gnadenhutten for over 40 years as a millwright until the plant closed and he retired. Jack often worked seven days a week with overtime to support his family. He was an extremely hard worker and worked well into his golden years as a "handyman". He wasn't happy unless he was doing something. He loved to mow lawns and couldn't sit still for very long.

Jack loved sports and being involved with his children. He coached Little League Baseball in Uhrichsville for many years and lead his team Maurer's Market to win several championships.
As the years passed, he moved to football where he helped coach his sons at St. Mary's in Dennison. Jack will be remembered for his love of teaching the youth the value of good sportsmanship.

Jack and Mary had a passion to travel and loved to winter in Leesburg, Florida for nearly 20 years. Every year they would either hop in the car or fly to Utah to visit their daughter Christy
and her family.

In addition to his wife Mary and his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a son David in 1999. Four brothers, Frank, Albert, Ronald, and James Horvath four sisters, Kaye Clifford, Helen Matthews, Dorothy Shrieve, and Betty Manukin. Two son-in-laws Homer N. Cox and Michael J. Kelley. He is survived by two sons, John G. Horvath Jr., with whom he made his home for over twenty years of Jackson Township, Steven M. Horvath of North Carolina, two daughters, Kathy J. Cox of Midvale, Oh, Christy L. Kelley of West Jordan, Utah, two brothers Donald (Richard) (Francis) Horvath and Robert Horvath. Seven grandchildren Ryan, Jerrod, Brandy, Andrew, Logan, Sean and Kenneth, Six great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter to be born in August. His furbaby "Tramp". Many nieces and nephews complete the family.

In keeping with Jacks wishes there will not be any calling hours and in the interest of public health, a private family funeral mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Dennison. He will be buried next to Mary in St. Mary's Cemetery near Dennison. Memorial Contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church or St. Mary's School.
