Margaret (Margie) E. Craft, age 90, of Uhrichsville passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024. She was born at home in Uhrichsville on August 10, 1933 to the late Quincy Schneider and Gertrude West Glazier.
She graduated from Uhrichsville High School in 1951 and married Larry Craft on October 9, 1952 at the Moravian Church in Indianapolis, Indiana by Reverend Paul Couch. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2006 after 54 years of marriage.
Margie enjoyed being a homemaker and was an excellent cook, cooking dinner every Sunday for the entire family. She thrived on new recipes and whipped up special treats per each family member’s request. Margie was known for her infamous cookie stories that she loved to make and share for special family occasions.
She was a lifetime member of Uhrichsville Moravian Church where she was Senior Choir Director since 1962. She also served as an Elder, belonged to Women’s Fellowship and helped with Bible School.
Margie belonged to the Uhrichsville Music Study Club, Civic League, Review Club, Union Township Homemakers and Classy Classmates Club, which was a group of classmates who met once a month for the last 70 years. She was a pool worker for many years and an Ohio Reads Instructor at Eastport Elementary School. Margie worked at Zelpha’s Dress Shop and Uhrich Transfer.
Margie loved to play the piano, complete newspaper puzzles and pull weeds. You might see her outside sitting on the porch, mowing the grass or spying groundhogs in the field. She had a passion for chance and enjoyed time at casinos or scratching off lottery tickets. Her grandkids would tell you that she loved making food so hot that it burned their taste buds off. A kitchen table full of family deemed an excellent day.
She is survived by her children Nanette (John) Beabout of Gnadenhutten; Heather Fulton of New Philadelphia; Neal (Marietta) Craft of Elm City, North Carolina; Colleen Cannon of New Philadelphia, 9 grandchildren - Scott (Kristin) Beabout, Beth (Alex) Knecht, Garron Fawcett, Ryan (Tiffany) Craft, Lindsey (Gordon) Craft-Silliker, Dustin (Nala) Craft, Madison (Fernando) Juarez, Matthew (Erica) Casimir, Codi Cannon, 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way, several nieces and nephews and a dear friend Dort Miles.
Preceding her in death beside her husband and her 15 year old son Gregg, were her parents, gandparents, sister RoseAnne Allanson, brother Richard Schneider and two brothers-in-law.
Honoring her wishes, a memorial service will be held at Uhrichsville Moravian Church on Wednesday, June 19 at 11 am at 315 North Water Street, with Rev. David Geyer and Rev. Bill Surber officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Uhrichsville Moravian Church or Ohio Hospice.
