Philip Benton Meese Jr.
On Monday, May 4, 2020, Philip Benton Meese, Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer.
Phil was born in Dennison, Ohio, to Philip and Esther Meese on August 14, 1944, and grew up in Tuscarawas, playing lots of basketball and graduating from Tuscarawas High School. Phil attended Ashland College, played on the golf team, and received degrees in Accounting and Psychology. Phil married his elementary school sweetheart, Karen Patterson, on January 13, 1967. While he held various accounting and sales jobs, he found the simpler things in life to be the most enjoyable. Fishing with his son and grandchildren, working in the garden with a favorite cigar, playing cards and golf, and watching movies, to name a few. Fishing trips to the northwest territory in Canada with his son were something he looked forward to each year. Travel with his wife of 53 years, Karen, was frequent and memorable and allowed him to enjoy his retirement to its fullest. While these activities and accomplishments describe Phil accurately, he was first, and foremost, a gentle, soft-spoken, kind-hearted man who always saw the very best in everyone, and lived his life as an example of this to others.
Phil was preceded in death by his father, Philip senior, his mother, Esther, his son, Scott, and brother-in-law Theodore Bauman. He is survived by his wife, Karen, his daughter, Jodi
Branco (Robert) five grandchildren, Allie, Ryan, Kelly, Megan, and Colleen, his sister, Kathy Schreiner (Dale), and sister-in-law Judy Bauman.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home in Uhrichsville, Ohio, and will be private.
