Shari Lynn Salina, (1968-2024)
Shari Lynn Salina passed away, surrounded by her family, at her home on January 22, 2024.
Shari Butler, born on February 15, 1968 at Union Hospital, Dover. She was the youngest of four children of Charlie and Joann (Plumley) Butler. She attended elementary and middle school in Tuscarawas and was a 1986 graduate of Indian Hills Christian School in New Philadelphia.
On March 9, 1990, she married Joe Salina at Rush Community Church. Together, Shari and Joe built a home and a life in Rush Township that welcomed three children, Geno (Kaylie Moore) Salina, Elly (Evan) Razor, and Ches (Emma Sprowl) Salina. Her greatest love and joy was her children and grandchildren. That joy found its deepest expression in recent years when she became “Gammy” to her grandchildren: Lorenzo, Piper, Patton, and an additional granddaughter due to be welcomed to this world on Shari’s birthday.
In addition to her grandbabies, Shari is survived by her husband of nearly 31 years, Joe, her parents Charlie and Joann, her brother and sisters in-law: Regina (Richard) Heath, and Ed (Donna) Salina of Rush Township, and Debbie (Kim) Clarke of Dover, as well as her brothers, Todd (Kristi) Butler, of Michigan, Danny (Kathy) Beach of Roswell, Lanny (Amy) Beach of New Philadelphia; and many close friends who she spent countless hours with.
Others were welcomed to her table for extended family gatherings, holiday meals, cookouts, bonfires, and celebrations. She loved vacationing and going on cruises with her close friends and family.
After taking a job as a bus driver for Indian Valley Schools, she soon became a teacher’s aide. She went back to school and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kent State University, eventually earning a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from American College of Education. After several stints as a long-term substitute teacher, in 2014 Shari was hired by Claymont Schools as a 5th Grade teacher, where she loved all her students and impacted their lives.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 at Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. in Uhrichsville, Ohio on Thursday, January 25, 2024 and one hour of calling prior to the service on Friday. Shari’s funeral will be held at 2 p.m., at Rush Community Church of the Nazarene in Rush Township on Friday, January 26, 2024. Pastor Jim Wallick and Todd Butler will be officiating. Interment will be in the Rush Community Cemetery at a later date.
