WILLIAM  “BILL” ROSS ARMSTRONG

 

William “Bill” Ross Armstrong, age 84 of Uhrichsville, O.; passed away, on Friday, July 17, 2020, at his home in Uhrichsville, surrounded by family after a period of declining health.

 

Born in 1936, in the former town of Tracy (Newport), Bill is the son of the late Ross L. and Beulah A. (Mahaffey) Armstrong.

 

In 1954, he graduated from Uhrichsville High School.  Bill served his country in the United States Army and he enjoyed sharing stories of his Army service as a munitions officer in Pisa, Italy.  He worked in the foundry for 43 years at Joy Manufacturing in New Philadelphia.  Bill was instrumental in starting the RTVFD founded in 1967 and was an active member in many roles as well as Chief.  Bill was deeply grounded in helping in any capacity in Rush Township.  He attended Rush Community Church of the Nazarene and was a Rush Township Volunteer Fire Fighter.  He was a lifetime resident of Toad Hollow.

 

After meeting at the Riverside Roller Rink, Bill married Kay (Zimmerman) Armstrong on March 5, 1960.  Kay preceded Bill in death on January 22, 2017.  He is also preceded in death by two children Scott Armstrong and Stacey Schumacher and her first husband Ron Ball; siblings Estella Salina and Ralph Armstrong.

 

Bill is survived by his daughter Marina Rae (John) Colombo; daughter-in-law Amy Armstrong; son-in-law Zachary Schumacher; grandchildren Marco Colombo of Naperville, IL, Kennedy (Brandon) Bailey of Scio and Jacob and Isabella Armstrong of Uhrichsville; siblings Deloris Yonley, Terry (Kay), Carol, Myron (Nikki), David, Randy (Carol) and Myra (Cecil) Migoni and his faithful companion coon hound Wilbur.

 

Private services and burial will take place on the family farm.

 

The family would like to extend appreciation to Community Hospice for the tremendous care provided during Bill’s illness.
