WILLIAM LEROY KERNS
William Leroy Kerns, age 78, of Gnadenhutten, OH, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at the Community Hospice Truman House. Born on January 22, 1940, in Macfarlan, WV, William is the son of the late Casey and Eddith (Stanley) Kerns. William and his wife of nearly 60 years, the former Mary Davis, were married on June 7, 1958 in Macfarlan, WV.
William was employed by UPS for 38 years as a driver of various trucks, most notably double trailer semi-trucks. While employed there, he was inducted into the UPS Circle of Honor and retired with a perfect safe driving record. He is a member of the Uhrichsville Foursquare Church. William enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, riding his numerous tractors, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their four children, Jennifer Brick and Susan Emhoff of Uhrichsville, Jeff Kerns of Dennison, Tim Kerns of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren Sara (Mike) Marlatt and Nick (Ashley) Kerns of Dover, Kari (Michael) Heinze of Columbus, and Katie Hicks of New Philadelphia; six great-grandchildren Jameson, Kaylyn, Gretchen, and Natalyn Marlatt and Landen and Miles Hicks. He is also survived by siblings Raymond (Bonnie) Kerns of Senecaville, Linda (Roger) Baileys of Elizabeth, WV, Pastor Mike (Cindy) Kerns of Vienna, WV and sister-in-law Merlene (Don) Ruddlesden of Washington, WV. William will also be deeply missed by his very special friends Lynn Demuth and Jim Campbell.
William is preceded in death by his favorite son-in-law Paul Brick.
A memorial service celebrating William’s life will take place on Friday, June 1, 2018, at 11 a.m., at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville, with his brother Pastor Mike Kerns officiating.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m., (one hour prior to services) on Friday, June 1, 2018, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to the Community Hospice Truman House or the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.
