EVELYN MARY BARNES

Evelyn Mary Barnes, age 99, of Dennison, O., passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, at her daughter-in-laws house in Galion, O., following a brief illness.

Born March 1, 1922, in Port Washington, O., Evelyn is the daughter of the late Fred and Leota (Schreiner) Miller.

After graduating from high school, Evelyn went to nursing school.  While her husband was in the service, she was employed as an assistant for dental and oral surgery in Ft. Knox, worked hematology at Camp Ellis; Fletcher Gen in Cambridge and the Canteen in Dennison.  Evelyn enjoyed fishing, camping, archery, sewing and knitting for the grandchildren.  She volunteered for Hospice in Tuscarawas County for over 20 years.  Evelyn loved the formal dinners at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, in Galion with all the family.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter-in-law Sharon Barnes of Galion; 4 grandchildren Richard Barnes of Galion, Rhonda Montey of Mansfield, Sherry (Howard) McKinney of Galion and Scott Barnes of Ontario; 12 great grandchildren Tiffany, Richard, Nicole, Robin, Brittany, Joe, Bethany, Vincent, Makensie, Drew, Carson and Dallas; 6 great great grandchildren Dakota, Johanna, Declan, Zavier, Matthew and Kylie; and her cat and companion “Tweeter”.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Robert Barnes whom she married August 16, 1941 in Port Washington.  Robert passed away February 8, 1997; also a brother Clyde Miller; sister Vera Stone and a son Ronald Barnes.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be held at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc., in Uhrichsville, O., with the Rev. Mark Unrue officiating.  Burial will follow at Port Washington Union Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 11 to 1 (two hours prior to services) on Wednesday December 1, 2021 at the funeral home.
