KATHRYN G. SHAMEL

Kathryn G. Shamel, age 96, of  New Philadelphia, O., passed  away at Park Village Southside in New Philadelphia, O., on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, after a period of declining health.

Kathryn was born November 14, 1925 in the Schumacher home place in Tuscarawas, to the late Elmer and Lola (VanLehn) Schumacher. She resided in that home for 94 years.

In 1943, Kathryn graduated from Tuscarawas Warwick High School. On December 24, 1948 Kathryn married Harold J. Shamel, who preceded her in death October 21, 1992.

She was employed as a librarian and then an office secretary at the Indian Valley North Junior High until her retirement in 1990. Kathryn enjoyed baking cookies, sewing and gardening.  She was also a member of the Sharon Moravian Church.

Kathryn is survived by her sons Harold  (Robin) Shamel of Uhrichsville, Jeffrey Shamel of Tuscarawas and Chris (Melissa) Shamel of Tuscarawas; grandchildren Kane Shamel, Jonas Shamel, Ed Shamel, Alex Shamel and Katie Shamel; great grandchildren Alena Shamel, Emma Shamel and Lacey Shamel and 4 great great grandchildren

In addition to her parents and husband, Kathryn is preceded in death by siblings Martha Rolli, Thelma Morrison and Warren Schumacher, along with a niece Joyce Sainato and cousins John Kopp and Carl Kopp.

Funeral services for Kathryn will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Sharon Moravian Church in Tuscarawas, with the Pastor Lloyd Gooden officiating.  Burial will follow at the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8, on Friday, April 1, 2022 at the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. at Uhrichsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Moravian Church to help restore the stained glass windows.
