RICHARD LESLIE DONEHUE

 

Richard Leslie Donehue, age 94, died June 26, 2022, at Lafayette Pointe Care Center.  He was born on February 6, 1928, to the late Lacy and Ida (Eichel) Donehue.  Dick remained a lifelong resident of Tuscarawas, OH, residing in the home he built along the Tuscarawas River in 1951.

 

During his school days at Tuscarawas High School, class of 1946, he played basketball and football.  Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy, stationed in Washington State for two years as a radar operator.

 

On July 3, 1949, he married Doris Anne Keffer, who preceded him in death on April 7, 2019.  They were married nearly seventy years.

 

He worked as a clay worker at The Royal Pipe Plant, a meat cutter at Beaber’s IGA and retired as a shift foreman at Reeves Steel in Dover in 1984.

 

He was an avid bowler and a life member of the Tuscarawas VFW.  He and Doris also raised, trained and ran beagles in field trials for over sixty years.  His Riverview Kennels produced eleven field champions.  In addition, he was inducted into the AKC Beagling Hall of Fame.

 

He leaves behind a sister Margaret (Robert) Cash of Massillon; two daughters Pat Cox of Fresno and Kate Capozella of Bradenton, Florida.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Doug (Amiee) Cox, Audrey (Jason Freeman), Cydney (Andrew) Burkhart and Kerry Capozella.  His eleven great grandchildren include Abby, Ella and Andrew Cox; Sam, Max and Ajay Freeman; Lillie Beitzel, Korben Capozella and Addie Burkhart; Cassius Capozella and Jayden Williams.

 

He was also preceded in death by five brothers William, Charles, John, Joseph and infant twin sibling Donald; a sister Mary Kathryn Warner; and son-in-law Cliff Cox.

 

In keeping with his wishes, cremation care has been entrusted to the Uhrich-Hostettler English Funeral Home, Inc. in Uhrichsville.  An inurnment will be held at Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery at a later date. 

 

The family wishes to thank Lafayette Pointe Care Center for their compassionate care.
